Young Family
Pray It!

Morning Prayer can mean getting up five minutes earlier; gather the family at the start of the day and begin with these words from Psalm 51: "Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise." Then each person in turn will ask God for a particular blessing for the day. Be specific: help with an exam, insight into a particular problem, a peaceful and safe drive, etc. Then close with this simple prayer: "Gracious God, be with us all the day long, keep us faithful to the gospel and bring us safely home." This could be car time prayer as well!
Mealtime prayer during Lent is a good opportunity to express our gratitude for the goodness of the food we have to eat and the generosity of all those who had a hand in growing and preparing the food. Although fasting is a common Lenten practice, it is also important to enjoy and be thankful for the food we have.
Adapted from Called Together by Mark Nielsen.
Lent is a Time to Feast and Fast
Fast from judging others.
Feast on the Christ within them.
Fast from emphasis on differences.
Feast on the unity of all life.
Fast from apparent darkness.
Feast on the reality of light.
Fast from thoughts of illness.
Feast on the healing power of God.
Fast from discontent.
Feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger.
Feast on patience.
Fast from pessimism.
Feast on optimism.
Fast from worry.
Feast on God’s love for you.

What Does Ignatian Spirituality Have to Offer Parents?
Ignatian Spirituality offers parents some wonderful tools to help in parenting. One of the three principles presented in this article is to "Let the Creator deal directly with the creature." Aside from making me smile at the use of the word "creature" to reference my child (on a bad day!) the wisdom presnted was so helpful. Go to the Ignatian website for further explanation and more tools for parents.
You can also read more about the Ignatian Exercises and this method of praying the scriptures. Finding God in all things is one of the practices. Watch this video to learn more.
St. Ignatius of Loyola is the founder of the Society of Jesus, better known as the Jesuits.
Pope Francis is a member of this order and his Ignatian training is very evident in how he pastors his flock.

Time to Do Life Laundry
Lent is a time to unburden ourselves of the things that "weigh us down." This video reflection from the Ignatian website dotMagis can set the stage for a family activity of "Lenten Laundry."
Challenge each member of the household to do some rummaging in their own space (or a shared space, like a toy room) to send the junk to the dump OR to share their excess with those in need.

40 years ago, Catholics in the United States wanted to respond to famine in Africa. Could we feed the hungry through Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving? The answer was yes -- and it came in the form of a small cardboard box. 40 years later, it still does.
Join our parish as we participate in CRS Rice Bowl this Lent. Each week of Lent, CRS will profile one country. Watch below for the video for each week. CLICK HERE to visit the CRS page and learn more about each country, to find a recipe from that country that you can make at home, and do your part to help the world!
Loving God, help us to remember the inherent dignity of all people.
